Job Description:
•Work with an integrated, multidisciplinary team of geoscientists and engineers to grow the business unit through the exploration for reserves.
•Integrate regional geological knowledge into the prospects and leads.
•Develop subsurface mapping skills and provide subsurface mapping to identify areas of interest, leads, and prospects.
•Develop and apply skills across key disciplines including geophysics, petrophysics, petroleum engineering, and risk assessment.
•Provide technical recommendations in the context of commercial and business drivers.

•Work in a multidisciplinary team with geologists, geophysicists, technicians, and engineers to identify and evaluate exploration potential, prospects, and leads within OXY's contract areas or other areas of interest.
•Learn to prepare various subsurface maps to support exploration efforts (isopach, time structure, and depth structure maps).
•Learn to prepare paleogeographic maps describing petroleum systems and maps that represent rock properties (reservoir thickness, facies, porosity, saturation, net pay maps).
•Incorporate basic geochemical and ROCKEVAL data into interpretations for evaluation of source rocks, burial history and basin analysis.
•Construct 2D and 3D geological models of the subsurface using maps and cross sections to support prospects, analysis, and recommendations.
•Incorporate understanding of wire line logging analysis to correlate well logs.
•Integrate wire line data with seismic data, evaluate lithology, formation boundaries, and potential pay zones.
•Recommend and present prospective leads to prospects through standard subsurface mapping techniques, displays, and integration of geophysical or petrophysical data.
•Use available computing platforms and software to perform the above duties efficiently and effectively, with an emphasis on Landmark Graphics software suites including StratWorks, SeisWorks, ZMAP and OpenWorks database.
•Provide occasional well site support as needed: provide cuttings and show descriptions, identification of formation tops, descriptions of cuttings, shows, and sidewall cores, and wireline logging (QC) supervision.
•Provide liaison between rig and exploration group in Tripoli.
•Manage paper and electronic data with the business rules prescribed by the business unit.
•Practice good time management skills, develop proficiency of prioritizing work, and working on what is important.
•Carry out work in accordance with HES, Code of Business Conduct guidelines, and the principles and policies established by OLOG.
•Proactively address personal development needs/gaps.
•Seek out training opportunities as needed, take and active role in addressing skills gaps through a combination of on the job training and formal training.
Requirements:
•Minimum, B.S. Degree in Geology, Master's Degree desirable.
•2-3 years of experience working as a geologist
•Demonstrates an academic awareness and understanding of basic technical principles, theories and concepts within the discipline.
•Developing a sound working knowledge of the discipline through training, mentoring and on the job experience.
•Eventually demonstrates a basic application of the discipline.
•Beginning to develop business principles.
•Developing a basic understanding of industry business drivers, Business Unit objectives and strategies and the economic impact of technical decisions.
•Developing an understanding of HES, and how it impacts on business performance.
