Wellsite Geologist, North Sea

North Sea with some time spent in Aberdeen office
Equal time rotation
6 - 9 months contract starting September 2010

Purpose:

Wellsite Geologist required for our clients forthcoming deepwater well operations in the North Sea. The assignment duration is expected to be approximately 6 - 9 months, commencing September 2010.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Attendance at pre-spud meeting(s) with Project Team members in Aberdeen.
  • Close liaison with the onshore and offshore Team Engineers, Geologists, Biostratigraphers, LWD, Pore Pressure Engineers and Mudlogging Personnel to ensure company goals and well objectives are met.
  • Supervision of Pore Pressure Engineers and generation of independent Pore Pressure estimates real time.
  • Daily wellsite duties and reporting with the production of lithology log, computer generated at site, incorporating the LWD, Mudlogging, wireline and biostratdata
  • Supervision of wireline logs when run.
  • Generation of composite log for each well.
  • Any other relevant specialist items which may be used in the successful drilling of wells which the Wellsite Geologist may provide
  • A high quality composite log will be required, generated using GEO.
  • Onshore operations support in the client's office as required

Experience

  • Must have at least 5 years experience as Wellsite Geologist
  • Deep water experience is essential

Education

  • Educated to a degree level in a suitable Earth Science discipline.

Certification

  • Offshore certificates must be valid and up to date

Additional Comments

  • Rotation of 2/2 or 3/3 to be confirmed depending on home location of personnel.

The Role
Two Intermediate to Senior Level Geologists will be assigned to work in our Tripoli exploration office in Libya for a term of at least two years. These explorers will work within an integrated exploration team that is responsible for identifying prospects in our operated exploration licenses in the Sirt Basin, onshore Libya. These geologists will report to the Exploration Manager, Libya and to the Director–Geology, International and Offshore in Calgary. These openings are to be filled immediately.

Responsibilities include:
•Collation, assessment and integration of historical exploration results
•Correlation of wells
•Play fairway mapping
•Prospect generation
•Prospect quantification and risk assessment.
•Geologists are required to initiate and manage specialist technical studies and incorporate them into an integrated evaluation.
•Ability to work to tight deadlines and complete work on schedule is essential.
•A comprehensive understanding of good practice in exploration,
•Strong background knowledge of onshore well-planning and operations as well as a strong focus on operational safety.
•Past experience working outside continental North America or on Libyan geology would be an advantage

MUD LOGGING GEOLOGIST - ENTRY LEVEL

Description:
A world leader in well site information services for oil and gas drilling, needs
entry-level mud logging geologists for its US operations, primarily in the Texas-Gulf of
Mexico, on land and offshore.
Our employees are part of a team that operates from a sophisticated, self-contained laboratory
located at the rig site. They assist other well site personnel and the drilling operation by
examining cuttings samples, identifying oil and gas shows, maintaining a well database of
geological, drilling and mud parameters, providing primary well control surveillance,
evaluating borehole hydraulics, and a range of other services. Senior personnel have the
opportunity to move up to high-level field positions performing PreVue pore pressure and
FLAIR hydrocarbon analysis services.
Required Experience:
Candidates must have a background in geology, engineering, electronics, process technology
or applied physical earth sciences. Previous oilfield-related experience is a plus. We require
mature, practical, serious-minded people who are able to work on their own initiative with
minimal supervision. Candidates must be US citizens or permanent residents, able to
communicate effectively in English, to live or relocate in the Texas Gulf Coast region, and
must be prepared to travel on short notice.
