Operation Geologist


DONG Energy E&P conducts activities within exploration and production (E&P) of oil and gas, primarily  offshore Denmark, Norway, the UK and the Faeroes. We are currently seeking an Operations Geologist to join our Copenhagen area based team.

Principal Accountabilities and Key Performance Indicators

  • Good understanding and experience in operating in the geological framework of the North Sea area as well as the West of Shetland and/or Norwegian Atlantic Margin.
  • Working experience in HPHT operations.
  • Gained practical experience as an Operations Geologist from an operator, licence holder or geological consultancy.
  • Enjoying team-working and planning, and capable of effective communication within the operations team as well as towards contractors, partners and authorities.
  • Holds the ability to strictly prioritise the tasks at hand.

Areas of Responsibility

1. Plan, execute and report exploration and appraisal wells 
2. Create stratigraphic, pressure and temperature prognoses for base of well design
3. Define data acquisition plans and contingencies together with project team

4. Formulate and communicate drilling programmes in close cooperation with our Drilling Department
5. Interface with wellsite geologists & drilling engineers to communicate on daily well progress 
6. Responsible for daily data distribution to the partnership and authorities

7. Confirm casing and core points – and assist in preparation for wireline logging jobs 
8. Secure QC, distribution and archiving of data from drilling projects and prepare for post-well studies
9. Responsible for G&G input to Final Well Reporting and post-job consultations with data contractors

The Candidate

Candidates for Operations Geologist should have at least a MSc in Geology or Geophysics.  The ideal candidate holds both wellsite and offshore experience with proven knowledge of North Sea stratigraphy sedimentologyhydrocarbon exploration and drilling technology. A thorough knowledge and comprehension of current data acquisition and formation evaluation techniques is essential. 

Candidates will be creative and work intuitively, capable of thinking outside the standard box in a creative and integrated manner still being continually systematic. They must be risk and safety responsive and must have the courage of their convictions. 

Excellent communication skills are required as is the flexibility to work effectively within different operations teams. It is imperative that they are fluent in written and spoken English, which is the common project language. Candidates should be able to prepare concise written and oral reports, and communicate drilling results to colleagues, management, licence partners and authorities with clarity and confidence.

A commitment to knowledge sharing - and mentoring of younger staff through discussions and work sessions - is also important.
