Working Title: Field Geologist
CLOSING DATE: 1/4/12 CONTRACT FULL HIRING RANGE: $22.28 - $26.20
DEPARTMENT: Wyoming State Geological Survey
LOCATION: Laramie
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Contract-based project deliverables. Assumes
approximately 35 hours of work per week will be required to complete deliverables within
contract period. Requires expertise in field mapping, knowledge pertaining to Wyoming geology,
map editing, and similar duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
=> Works with Project Geologists in the field to produce bedrock and surficial maps.
=>Compiles field data for map production.
=>Analyzes geological substances to determine their physical structure and chemical composition.
=>Provides detailed descriptions of rock units and their characteristics.
=>Reviews maps, photographs, permits, plans, site history, and data.
=>Ability to travel and work out of doors in Wyoming weather, conditions and terrain.
=>Obtains topographic map, GPS, GIS, and aerial photo data to determine field conditions.
=>Compiles data for geologic cross-sections and stratigraphic columns.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
=>Knowledge of current principles of geology, hydrogeology, and structural geology
=>Competence in areas of geology as it pertains to the State of Wyoming
=>Expertise in GIS
PREFERENCES:
Preference will be given to those applicants with 1-5 years of progressive work experience in
Geology, or to those with a B.S. in Geology, with expertise in field mapping as it pertains to
geology, and proficiency in GIS applications specifically pertaining to geologic mapping.
