Job Description

The Mineral Deposits Research Unit in the Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences at the University of British Columbia invites applications for an appointment as a Research Associate to lead our new Structural Geology of Ore Deposits research projects.  This position will provide scientific and logistical leadership to successfully achieve a wide range of project objectives which are focused on establishing the district to deposits scale structural controls of base metal ore deposits in the Andean orogenic belt.  The position also requires the supervision of graduate students, extensive industry interactions and international-level research outputs.  The one-year appointment will begin on March 19th, 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter.  Possible extensions will be based on performance and funding.  The salary will depend on the candidate's experience and expertise; the minimum stipend for a Research Associate I as of July 1, 2009 is $51,140.82 Can. per annum.
