Geotechnical Engineer, Zambia

Our Client- Is a rapidly growing mining and metals company currently operating two mines and developing five projects worldwide. Their aim is to become a globally diversified mining and metals company.
They are a listed Mining Company operating in Australia, Europe, Africa & South America.
Job Description- (including, but not limited to)
  • Developing and implementing standards and procedures as well as monitoring regimes in respect to slope and ground control monitoring.
  • Provide a strong contribution to maintaining and improving the site safety, health and environment culture, inclusive of - advocating EHS specific training, compliance, awareness and participation.
  • Supervision and training of junior geotechnical geologists and other technical staff in the geotechnical aspects of; pit mapping, core orientation, core logging, data input and data analysis and ground control monitoring.
  • Provide input into all aspects of open pit design and operation impacting on pit stability, inclusive of - drill and blast practices, pit design, mining practices, dewatering and depressurization requirements.
  • Conduct pit wall geotechnical stability & safety analyses, inclusive of pro-active and reactive (post-failure) reviews and investigations.
  • Ensure geotechnical test work/samples are conducted, analysed and that data is incorporated into geotechnical designs.
  • Maintain on-going geological and geotechnical mapping across all active pits and dewatering decline as a high priority task.

Candidate Requirements
- (including, but not limited to)
  • The successful Geotechnical Engineer will have tertiary qualifications in Geology accompanied with demonstrated geotechnical experience.
  • Previous experience with geotechnical software systems and advanced studies in rock mechanics are preferred.
  • She/he will provide geotechnical support and input into mine design, new open-pit and dewatering decline development studies, open pit cutback redesigns and existing pit wall stability assessments.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience as a Geotechnical Engineer.
  • Must be eligible for registration as a professional person by an accredited institute.
